Who we are

nairobi beyond foto is a photography-based initiative in Nairobi, Kenya. This policy covers the website at www.nairobibeyondfoto.com and explains what we collect from visitors, why, and what you can do about it. For anything in this policy, write to us at we@nairobibeyondfoto.com.

What we collect

Anonymous visit counts

The website keeps its own basic count of page visits so we can see which pages are read. This count stores the page address, the referring website, the country reported by the network, and a general device and browser type. It uses no cookies. Instead of storing your IP address, we store a one-way, daily-changing digest of it, which lets us count a visitor once a day but cannot be turned back into an address or followed from one day to the next.

Information you send us

This website has no contact form: the Contact and Support pages simply open your own email application. When you write to us, we receive whatever you choose to include (typically your name, email address and the content of your message), and we keep that correspondence so we can reply and continue the conversation.

Why we collect it

The anonymous visit count tells us which programs, exhibitions and articles people actually read, so we can plan future work and improve the site. Correspondence is used only to answer you and to carry out the collaboration, partnership or enquiry you contacted us about.

The basis for using your information

Replying to your correspondence relies on your having contacted us and on our legitimate interest in running the organisation. The anonymous visit count does not identify you, so it does not rely on consent.

Cookies

This website sets no cookies. We do not use Google Analytics or any other third-party tracking service, which is why you are not asked to accept or reject cookies here. Our own visit count works without them.

How long we keep information

Our own anonymous visit counts are kept for up to 24 months. Correspondence is kept for as long as the relationship is active and for a reasonable period afterwards.

Where your information is processed

This website is hosted on infrastructure that may process data outside Kenya. Where information is transferred out of the country, we rely on the provider’s contractual safeguards and on appropriate protections under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019.

Your rights

Under Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019 you have the right to be informed how your personal data is used, to access the data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have data deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya.

To ask for access, correction or deletion, email we@nairobibeyondfoto.com with what you would like us to do. We may ask you for enough detail to locate the information. We will respond as soon as we reasonably can, and within the timeframes set by the Act.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the website handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If we ever introduce cookies or a third-party analytics service, we will ask for your consent before it is used.
